Xiaofeng Denton Peng is Chairman and CEO of SPI Energy Co., Ltd., a renewable energy company headquartered in McClellan Park, California. He is a pioneer, visionary, and successful entrepreneur in the renewable energy industry, with two decades of experience in solar, battery storage, electrical vehicles (EV), and EV charging. SPI Energy Co Ltd. trades under Nasdaq under the ticker symbol SPI.

Peng also serves as CEO and Chairman of Phoenix Motor Inc., a publicly traded company that designs, develops, manufactures, and assembles all-electric transit buses and integrates electric drive systems for medium- and light-duty electric vehicles in the United States. Phoenix Motor trades on the NASDAQ as PEV and provides a range of products, including zero-emission transit buses, shuttle buses, Type A school buses, utility and service trucks, flatbed and cargo trucks, walk-in vans, and also provide chargers, and electric forklifts.

He has served as Director and Executive Chairman of the board of directors of SPI Energy since January 2011 and became Chairman in February 2017. He has led the company as CEO since 2016.

Since 2015, Peng has also served as Chairman of the board of SolarJuice Co., Ltd., Australia, a subsidiary of SPI Energy.

SPI Energy has a significant presence in the global renewable energy market with a diverse portfolio spanning solar, battery storage, and EV solutions for business, residential, government, and utility customers and investors. One of its subsidiaries, SEM Wafertech, Inc., is a leading solar wafer manufacturer in the US, with a facility in South Carolina to help meet the increasing need for locally sourced solar wafers as the demand for solar power continues to grow throughout the country.

Another SPI Energy subsidiary, Solar4America, is a premier “Made in the USA” solar module manufacturing company. Along with its facility in Sacramento, California, the South Carolina plant, which was leased in 2023, allows Solar4America to expand its footprint and manufacture a wider variety of solar panels for residential and commercial customers and utility projects.

At the 2023 Midwest Solar Expo in Chicago, Solar4America showcased its American-made 410W residential solar modules and 550W bifacial modules designed for commercial, industrial, and utility markets. The company was the first and only major domestic manufacturer already manufacturing 550W/M10 solar modules in the U.S. Denton Peng, in his comments in the press, noted that the company can deliver to customers anywhere in the nation from its factories.

Xiaofeng Denton Peng’s Career

Before SPI Energy, he founded LDK Solar (LDK) in July 2005 and served as Chairman of the board and CEO. LDK, located in Xinyu, China, manufactured multicrystalline solar wafers used in solar cell production and provided wafering services for monocrystalline and multicrystalline wafers.

He also founded Suzhou Liouxin Industrial, Ltd. in March 1997 and served as its CEO until February 2006. Suzhou Liouxin was a leading manufacturer of personal protective equipment in Asia, employing 12,000 people.

Denton Peng’s Academic Pedigree

Peng graduated from Jiangxi Fenglin College of Foreign Economy and Trade in 1993 with a bachelor’s in international business and from the Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, in Beijing, with an executive MBA degree in 2002.
